A breakthrough in any one of these elements of healing can affect everything else. A psychospiritual breakthrough can supersede everything else. On the other hand, good diet and exercise can help make you more likely to have an emotional or psychospiritual breakthrough. People used to fast to induce visions or to connect themselves with their intuitions or a higher power. I don't recommend fasting, because I think that most of us aren't ready for it and that it could backfire. However, I do recommend "fasting with food".
Some of the best advice I can give anyone is to look for your "blind spots." Even if you're an avid diet and natural-food enthusiast, you may carry around a lot of judgment and attitude, and be unwilling to look at your emotional life.
In my case, exercise is the blind spot. I have a good diet, take care of my emotional and spiritual well-being, and don't have a lot of toxic lifestyle habits. I'm an expert on supplements and natural medications, but exercise is a challenge for me. If I exercise, is it right for me? Do I benefit? Tremendously, even from a moderate amount. It's my blind spot. Even though I've tried to master all the other elements while keeping exercise in the background, exercise remains just as important for my health as for anyone else's. That blind spot holds special power, so watch for it. I've seen exercise enthusiasts whose diets consist of mostly junk food, containing lots of sugar. They're in such good aerobic condition that they feel no pain from this. But sooner or later, it catches up to them. Some people scoff at spiritual practices, psychotherapy, or emotional-release techniques. Be open to the idea that some real power may be available for you in something that you currently resist. People who meditate or are openly spiritual may seem "holier than thou," but there just might be something beneath the surface.
It's easy to plan your exercise program if you're a sports or diet fanatic, but if there's a missing link or you have a blind spot, the questions can help you identify important areas to focus on. It's my wish that all readers of this book develop all the personal power and freedom they can.
